Mentoring Minds Review

Recently, I was sent a copy of Motivation Reading from Mentoring Minds. I was looking for reading comprehension with more of a challenge for my advanced students, and this was the perfect fit.
Motivation Reading contains twenty-five different reading selections. The units vary from integrated subject matter for informational and literary text. Each unit contains a reading comprehension passage as well as critical thinking questions, based on the Common Core Standards and using text-based evidence.
The teacher’s guide is very well laid out in a simple but explicit manner. The step by step format ensures that the teacher hits on each reading component. Each unit has quick and easy suggestions for building background, vocabulary, instructional activities, and critical thinking activities. Each unit also contains an extended practice assessment, as well as a performance task assessment and a constructed-response assessment.
I found the Motivation Reading to be a great supplement to our reading series. It definitely created a challenge for my students and required them to read and think deeper. I loved the written response provided for each passage.
Check out Mentoring Minds if you are in need of a critical thinking (supplemental) curriculum.

Monday Meet Up

Hi friends!!! I know, it's been months since I last posted. But I have a really good reason for going MIA... On January 26th, we welcomed Grace Lynn to our family.
I have spent the past four months at home enjoying every minute of being a mommy. I have just returned to work for the last three weeks of school, and I am already counting the days until summer break. But coming home to this precious smile is just the best feeling ever!
So that is where I have been. I am ready for some summer fun! Our collaborative blog, The Teaching Tribune is hosting a summer long party! Every day you'll find some new teaching and life ideas. You'll get to know other bloggers and have some fun!
Meet my friend and new first time mommy also, Martha...

Remembering Sandy Hook

As educators, we remember and honor our fallen colleagues and their students from Sandy Hook School. We honor them each day in our classrooms in which we continue their dream of teaching our children. We honor their memory with our service. Join with teachers everywhere in committing random acts of kindness to show our love for Sandy Hook.
